Preschool

Unlike preschool programs that exist in daycare centers, Mendham Country Day School's preschool is an extension of our full academic program. Our students are taught by highly qualified, certified teachers. In addition, children benefit from the combination of our spacious and bright preschool environment and the full array of school resources including a full art, technology, instrumental and vocal music program as well as world language classes.

Our program encourages autonomy in our students. Our student-centered program promotes independence and responsibility through teacher-directed activities. The classroom fosters the child's natural love of learning and emphasizes respect for other children and the environment. Mendham Country Day School believes that preschoolers need to investigate, manipulate and explore in order to learn concepts. We also believe that preschoolers develop social skills, refined gross and fine motor skills, experience emotional growth and have the best cognitive preparation in an environment that is safe and comfortable yet academically challenging. Our students become collaborators, problem- solvers, critical thinkers and great public speakers.

Our preschoolers enjoy visitors from the larger community including a dentist, police officer and firefighters. Our faculty adjust the curriculum to meet the child where they are. our program can accelerate for more advanced students or offer remediation to students if needed. our program is designed to foster a sense of inquiry and discovery in our youngest learners. Our students learn basic coding and explore S.T.E.A.M.

Through fairy tales and other age appropriate projects.

Development of interpersonal relationships and a sense of community are very important in the preschool years. We embrace each child individually, nurturing a zest for learning, a willingness to take risks, and above all, a sense of curiosity about the world around us. We instill in the children a sense of respect for and an awareness of the needs of the school community. We help them become group learners, effective problem solvers, thoughtful decision-makers and good citizens.
